A few days ago however, I felt that it was the right time to return to my addiction/therapy/quilting and I have finally started the Japanese quilt I purchased as a kit from Kathy at Material Obsession back in July.
Tokyo Rose pattern and fabric kit from Material Obsession
It's funny you know, I had seen this pattern around for a long time before I bought it, one of those that kept catching my eye. However when I came to make it up, I decided I didn't want to go with the squares after all. I had been inspired by a quilt the lovely Andi had made up for her Mum (see her quilt here), and decided that triangles were what I was after.
When Kaffe's latest book Quilts en Provence was released recently, I adored Liza Prior Lucy's Fruit Salad quilt.

Photograph taken from Kaffe's Quilts en Provence book (pub. 2010).
I am thrilled that it turned out so well.
Only 3 extra fabrics were added to the kit...these two divine Sevenberry fabrics the blue and the pink..
and the red for the border...More red will probably be added to this border before I quilt it I think.
Looks great as a table cloth...
I'm thinking a simple all over pattern for the quilting. I will think about that for a little longer before I decide!
Thank you also to everyone who wished me happy birthday last Friday on facebook, I really appreciated your wishes from around the world and had an awesome day. xo

Glad you are feeling better..your quilt came out fabulous! I was looking at that book with my sister during a visit home and she was making "that would look nice in my..." sort of comments!
It can be lonely dealing with chronic pain, being unable to do the things that you love, sending net hugs your way. That quilt looks just beautiful, I love the fabrics that you chose. I'm glad you are back, your lovely pics never fail to inspire.
It's so good to see you recovered enough to have some fun with the kit. You inspire me by doing your own thing with it. I hope you continue on that path to recovery. Have a wonderful Christmas and holiday.
"Turned out so well"?...It's blooming marvellous! Happy Christmas, thanks for the inspiration, take care!
It's gorgeous! I love it!! And the flowers at the bottom are so pretty--I love that flower's fragrance!
Glad to see you back! I love your quilt!!
Hi Cathy - sorry to hear that you have had such a crappy time. I love your fruit salad quilt. It is a far superior version to the squares in mho.
Hope you have a wonderful and restful holiday period.
Happy belated birthday Cathy, and a very merry Christmas!
Your Japanese Fruit Salad quilt looks amazing!

Hi Cathy, saw your post on facebook, so thought I'd check out your blog.....AMAZING!!!!
Beautiful work as always. Sorry to hear you've been through a bad patch with your shoulder. You have been in my thoughts, we popped in at work on the off chance you were there!!! Never mind, will take this chance now to wish you a very HAPPY & HEALTHY Christmas, and may God bless you all abundantly in the year ahead. Lots of love Kylie & fam xoxox
Your fruit salad quilt top is beautiful, Cathy! I think waiting for the inspiration is a good thing. Waiting because of a bad shoulder is not. Hope you are healing well, and can enjoy the holiday season with your family. Best wishes for the new year. And a late birthday greeting, too...
; )
Take care and be good to yourself...
You've been missed. What a gorgeous quilt. You have a wonderful sense of color and style. Happy Belated Birthday. I love the beautiful pitcher with the flowers.
Happy Birthday for last Friday, Cathy!!!!
I'm so sorry your shoulder has been bad again!
That beautiful quilt looks like the perfect antidote for feeling blue. I love all those joyous colours! Glad to see you are well enough to sew and blog again! Welcome back!
Have a Merry and blessed Christmas, Cathy
All I can say is WOW!! This quilt is just gorgeous and I so agree with turning those fabrics into this quilt instead of using them for squares. Definitely more interesting and unique. A job well done in the face of shoulder pain. I so hope you are feeling better. Wishing you a Merry Christmas too!
I love your Fruit Salad! Gorgeous!!!
Wishing you a Happy and Healthy Holiday and New Year.
Your colors are beautiful, very pretty!

I bought that exact same quilt kit for Mum 4 or 5 years ago and i must ask her is she has made it up.......like all quilters i bet her answer will be NO.
Merry Chrissy to you and yours and continue to do your work when your shoulder gets better i love your blog.

Hi Cathy, Glad your shoulder is feeling better and you are able to get back to quilting. . Chronic pain can do terrible things to one's mind.
Your Blog is so colorful and inspiring... I have been missing your posts.
Hope you have a healthy Christmas full of happiness and joy.
Love your latest creation.
So sorry to hear you've been having a hard time. I hope brighter days are ahead.
The delay in starting the quilt from the kit was a good thing? I really like what you did with the fabrics so much better!
It's gorgeous! :)
I'm sad for you too,Cathy! Do you have a funny feeling it is forever, just having a little sleep every now and then? I do ... and seeing I'm feeling okay at the moment I feel I will be able to cope. Happy Christmas, Sweet and chin up!

I just love your fruit salad quilt - what a great choice. Hope 2011 is a better year for you. Happy Christmas!
It turned out beautifully, Cathy! Really pretty with those gorgeous prints and companion colors! The fruit salad quilt is one I'd like to make -- I love how you used the Tokyo Rose kit fabrics!
Looking good Cathy! Glad your shoulder lets you work again. Don't over do it! Little and often...
I really enjoy your blog! Sorry about your shoulder:( I have a question about your half square triangle quilt you finished back in October. What size were your squares? Did you use a pattern? I REALLY love this quilt and would love to recreate it. Thanks in advance for the info. Happy holidays.
Nice to have you back Cathy, have a very Merry Christmas with all your family and a safe, happy and healthy 2011..

oh! I love this quilt, Cathy............
Perhaps because it remains me the kimono of my youth... I lived in Tokio while I was a child;)
Unfortunately for me, it looks like Material Obsession doesn't have these nice japanese fabrics in its kit anymore...
I wish you a Happy 2011!!!!!
And I hope the pain in your shoulder will leave you alone this new year;)
Yours is the first blog I've read in about 2 months Cathy. And it was well worth it - lovely quilt, and hopefully many more in 2011 :)
